Dwight Gayle may not play regardless of whether he is fit because of speculation that he may be leaving the club.

United’s two next fixtures are away to league leaders Manchester City in the Premier League and then away to Chelsea in the FA Cup fourth round. Having Aleksandar Mitrovic back is great news for the team as the next two games are ones which Newcastle will need to grind out to get a result.

Jesus Gamez and Lejeune provide depth at the defender position, but the back line has not been the reason for the team’s recent struggles. Newcastle have conceded just two goals in their last four PL fixtures. Hopefully their attack gets a spark from Mitro’s return.
