NUFC U21s Defeat Notts County in Checkatrade Trophy

Young Mags were impressive again in 2-0 win

In a battle between the Magpies in the Checkatrade Trophy, it was NUFC U21s that came out on top 2-0.

The win puts the young mags in 1st place in Group G, and as long as they don’t lose the final group match, they will guarantee advancement into the knockout stages.

It all started with Tom Allan getting fouled in the box in the 10th minute. It was Reserve player of the month Callum Roberts who stepped up and buried the pen to make it 1-0.

It was not one sided by any means as keeper Nathan Harker made many great saves to keep the U21s in the match.

In the 56th minute, the 2nd goal featured a beautiful through ball from Sean Longstaff connected with in form striker Elias Sorensen as he buried a low shot to make it 2-0.

The next match for the reserves will be on the road to Aston Villa in the Premier League 2.

Also of note, Yannick Toure made the squad for the first time since being signed. He was signed from Young Boys in Switzerland and is a promising young striker.

TEAM: Nathan Harker, Lewis Cass, Stefan O’Connor, Kelland Watts, Liam Gibson, Owen Bailey, Sean Longstaff, Thomas Allan (Juanito 89’), Matty Longstaff (Mo Sangare 85’), Callum Roberts, Elias Sorensen (Adam Wilson 63’)
