Former Newcastle player, Paul Gascoigne has been charged with sexual assault by touching following an incident occurring in August. The incident that spurred the charges unfolded on a train from York to Durham on August 20.

SkySports have reported that the former English international was arrested August 20th at the Durham train station and has been charged with sexual assault according to the British Transport Police.

A spokesperson from the British Transport Police said:

A man[Gascoigne] is due to appear in court next month charged in connection with the sexual assault of a woman on board a train from York to Durham.

Paul Gascoigne, of Amy Street, Leicester, was charged via postal requisition with one count of sexual assault by touching, contrary to Section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

The charge relates to an incident on board a train on August 20 this year.

Sky go on to confirm that Gascoigne will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on December 11th.

Gasciogne was in the news last month, as he was set to be inducted in the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in October, but the invite was withdrawn after concerns were raised regarding the former star’s health per SkySports.

Gazza has not released a public statement, but he did send out a questionable tweet last night [NSFW], which many are speculating to be related to the announcement of his charges.
