Paul Dummett, who has been with Newcastle since he was 9-years old, has signed an extension that could keep him Tyneside until 2022. The left-back has really earned this contract as he has been one of our most consistent players as of late. In fact, in his 9 games in the Premier League, Newcastle has only conceded 8 goals. Without him in the lineup, a total of 28 goals have been conceded in 18 games. That’s a big difference. Not all of that is just because of Dummett of course, but it is still something to think about.

Dummett has been with the first team since 2013, where he made his debut as a 21-year-old and has made serious improvements since then. He has been playing his best football under the tutelage of Rafa Benitez and we hope he continues that development.

Benitez had this to say about Dummett; “If you talk about players that are important for the team, normally people talk about goalscorers, midfielders and number tens but in modern football, there are not too many consistent left-sided full-backs.

”Paul is exactly that; he understands the game and you know what you can expect from him week in, week out. That’s important when you have a lot of big games. He’s a player you can trust.”

Those are big words from the boss and you can see he is one of Benitez’s favorite players. He knows exactly what he will get from him.

Dummett is one of the few homegrown players on the first team. Help us congratulate him on the extension!
