After defeating Manchester United in a thrilling match of football, Newcastle United fans came back to reality after watching the club draw against Bournemouth. We then came back to an even harsher reality when Liverpool beat the club . Although, to be fair, Liverpool have been stellar this season, and the win against Manchester United was unlikely to carry over into success over another top team.
Of course, we dreamed it. We dreamed hard. Obviously some of you didn’t dream hard enough. I know I did.
But that doesn’t mean that the club is in serious trouble. It was a hard fought match, and obviously there are things that need to be worked on. However, I don’t think the club will see itself relegated.
Manchester United lost due to a belief in their dressing room that it would be an easy match. They weren’t all 100% and certainly made it easy for any team to take advantage of that. What is amazing is that Newcastle United actually managed to do it without letting a team come one or two down to draw the match.
What the club needs to be concerned about is letting leads get away from us. I don’t expect Newcastle to come from two down to draw or even win a match against Liverpool. All I ask is that the club manage to maintain a lead against a club like Bournemouth. That was what surprised me. Not our win against Manchester United, and most certainly not our loss to Liverpool. It’s what we do against clubs that are on our level that really matters most right now.
