What Should Newcastle Do with These Transfer Candidates?

The summer transfer window is less than two months away. Some players in Rafa Benitez’s squad will inevitably leave, but plenty of potential outgoing players still have a bright future at the club. In some cases, it takes a while for a player to settle in to the system and find their best role, like we have seen this year with Mohamed Diame. Remy Cabella and Florian Thauvin were both players who didn’t fit the Premier League mold right away, but I think that they would’ve adjusted if they were given more time. Thauvin has been very impressive back at Marseille after leaving Newcastle a few seasons ago. Facundo Ferreyra and Luuk de Jong both struggled to score in the Premier League during their Tyneside loan spells, but they have been lethal finishers at Shakhtar Donetsk and PSV Eindhoven, respectively.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is already flourishing on loan at Fulham, but he will see his transfer value rise much higher if he impresses in Russia this summer. Knowing that Mitrovic has not been a consistent presence in the Newcastle lineup, would the club be tempted to cash in on the touted Serbian striker?

Ayoze Perez has played very well as of late and many supporters, including myself, would hate to see him go. His sale would provide the resources to sign one of their transfer targets.

Kenedy has been brilliant, but Chelsea’s asking price may exceed what the club wants to pay for him.

Martin Dubravka has made a greater impact on the club than expected, but with young keepers like Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman hungry for playing time, should United spend the money to bring him back?

Adam Armstrong hasn’t been given the chance to compete for a starting striker role, so he may covet a permanent move to a club which can offer him first team playing time. I have been eagerly waiting the emergence of Adam Armstrong for a few years now, but I fear that Rafa does not have him in his plans.

Depending on whether the club is sold, we will see how big of a transfer budget we are working with and in turn which players we can afford to keep.

Also, I am not even going to ask if we should sell Jamaal Lascelles because the answer is no. We definitely should not do that.
