Newcastle came into this match hot off a win against Huddersfield. The Toon kept their great form and would go on to score two goals to secure three points against Leicester City. This win would propel Newcastle into the top half of the Premier League table with six more matches remaining.
The match started with Newcastle testing Kasper Schmeichel off a header from Ayoze Perez at the near post. A good save by Schmeichel was made but Newcastle looked dangerous and encouraging. Shortly after, Jonjo Shelvey would finish after a great shot fake at the top of the box to make it 1-0.
Ayoze Perez would make it a 2 goal lead at the 75 minute mark. A beautiful finish yet again for Ayoze as he would lob a ball over the head of Leicester’s keeper. This would be a goal in back to back games for the Spaniard. Something our Cameron Johnson would not be surprised about.
That goal would prove to be the winner as Leicester would grab one in the 81st minute off a Jamie Vardy finish. But it only proved to be a consolation goal for the home team as Newcastle would hold on to the three points. Another crucial win, making that three in a row, for the Magpies as their relegation fears may soon be gone.
This result is very encouraging and comes with many questions in Newcastle’s future. There are rumors swirling that the Takeover Talk is back on and that the Toon may very well be sold in the near future. But what we do know is that Rafa’s men are playing with confidence. A relegation battle has now turned into a chance to stay in the top 10 of the Premier League.
