Newcastle U23s started off their season on the right foot against National League side Barrow winning 3-2. The game was played at Barrow’s Furness Building Society Stadium.

The match started with a not so great beginning for the visitors as Barrow scored in the 4th minute via a free kick. After that opener, the U23s took over.

A 32nd minute goal Ivan Toney started off the scoring for the Toon. United got their next two goal by promising Denmark U19 international, Striker Elias Sorensen. Scoring in the 48th minute and 58th respectively.

Barrow got one back in the 79th minute but it wasn't enough as Newcastle U23s held on to win 3-2.

Newcastle Team: Nathan Harker (Otto Huutanen 46); Lewis Cass (Ryan Barrett 46), Oisin McEntee (Owen Bailey 46), Stefan O’Connor, Achraf Lazaar (Liam Gibson 46); Thomas Allan (Dan Barlaser 46), Matthew Longstaff (Juanito 46), Mo Sangare (Adam Wilson 46), Trialist; Luke Charman (Elias Sorensen 46), Ivan Toney (Matthew Longstaff 75)

The U23s will be something interesting to watch this year. As noted earlier this summer, 18 players were released from the team. Yannick Toure has been a newcomer who is a top prospect out of Switzerland and he will be a Striker to watch but outside of him, no new outside signings have come in.

As far as internal signings or promotions, six players signed professional deals from the academy. Thomas Allan, Lewis Cass, Matty Longstaff, Oliver Walters, Kelland Watts, and Adam Wilson.

It will be interesting to see how this team preforms this season as we will be keeping an eye on the development of each player.
