Review: Newcastle Win vs St. Pat’s 2-0

Newcastle play well in first friendly in Dublin

Newcastle started off the season strong with a 2-0 win over St. Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park in Dublin.

The scoring started with a debut goal from midfielder Sean Longstaff. Sean rattled one off the post and to the back of the net in the 41st minute. Longstaff spent last season on loan in Blackpool and had a very successful campaign there.

The second half was similar to the first as Newcastle continued to dominate. But it wasn’t until a foul on Dwight Gayle in the box, that the Magpies were able to get their 2nd. Christian Atsu scored from the spot to make it 2-0 which ended up the final.

This was a good overall result against a squad who is currently in the middle of their season. It was also nice to see Sean Longstaff and Josef Yarney make their debuts as well. Newcastle’s next match is next Tuesday at Hull City.

Newcastle Team:

1st Half: Karl Darlow; Javier Manquillo, Florian Lejeune, Josef Yarney; Rolando Aarons, Matt Ritchie, Mo Diame, Sean Longstaff, Victor Fernandez; Ayoze Perez, Joselu

2nd Half: Matz Sels; DeAndre Yedlin, Ciaran Clark, Josef Yarney; Callum Roberts, Jonjo Shelvey, Christian Atsu, Sean Longstaff, Adam Armstrong; Kenedy, Gayle
