Lejeune could miss an extended amount of time due to an injury he received while training last week. “After further medical examination, the doctor told me I have an anterior cruciate ligament injury”, Lejeune said on his social media accounts. Rafa Benitez stated that the Frenchman will need surgery to fully recover in time to play in this upcoming season. But that process will take quite a long time as Rafa would go on to say “We could lose him for a while,” after the friendly draw against Porto.
During my last training session, I left the field due to an injury. After further medical examination, the doctor told me I have a cruciate ligament injury. I'll have surgery in the next few days. I'll do everything I can to get back as quickly as possible on St James' Park⚫⚪ pic.twitter.com/LtuO670sNZ

So what does this mean for Newcastle? Well after the sale of Mitrovic, hopefully some of those funds will go to prospective replacements. Lejeune was bought for 10 million pounds last summer and played very well under Benitez, notching 2 assists in 24 Premier League games. He will not be easily replaced, although the addition of Fabian Schar was timed well.
