The 90th minute against Spurs this past weekend presented a scary moment for Newcastle United as fans, coaches and players alike all watched as DeAndre Yedlin struggled to get off of the pitch.
Many fans assumed the worst, as Yedlin looked seriously hurt and had to be helped off of the pitch by Newcastle medical personnel. The manner in which he was injured caused concern as it was a non-contact knee injury, an injury that usually does not bode well for the future of any athlete.
After silence on the status of Yedlin for multiple days, the club released a statement today easing the minds of many fans.
The club had this to say
“The club can confirm that the knee injury sustained by DeAndre Yedlin on Saturday was not serious.
The USA international defender limped off towards the end of United’s season opener against Tottenham Hotspur.
However he has been assessed and undergone treatment this week and is likely to resume training with his team-mates shortly.”
It is unknown what the actual injury is or how long the USA international will be out, but it is unlikely that he will play this weekend as Newcastle travel away to Cardiff City. More news on the defender will likely be revealed during Rafa’s Friday press conference.
