There are a couple of Newcastle United players who still wear the shirt for the club. While they may not be playing in the Premier League, we all once thought they’d be the future of the club.
Moves failed to gain traction for Achraf Lazaar who was under the impression he would be making a move back to Italy’s Serie A, where he would be given more playing time. That never happened, as the deal broke down and he remained in a Newcastle United shirt, albeit, without a number.
No solution has been found for Rolando Aarons, whose multiple injuries sidelined what was seen as a promising Newcastle United career. It’s not for a lack of trying as Newcastle United had attempted to get Aarons playing time on loan, in the hopes that a deal would materialize for future permanent transfer somewhere else. While interest was there, a move never happened.
Both these players have found themselves in limbo at Newcastle United as their futures are unclear. Lazaar, once seen as a promising player from Italy only saw four starts in his time at the club before Benitez effectively ended any previous interest he had the Moroccan. Aarons never managed to stay healthy, and as a result has found himself unable to gain a starting position with the club. While Lazaar made the 25-man roster, Aarons was effectively left out.
While it’s a shame that both players have had their careers come to this moment, they are surplus to requirements on Tyneside, and hopefully a solution is found for them in January, where they can kickstart their careers, once seen as promising.
