Callum Roberts Loan Move to Colchester Completed

Newcastle Winger is going on loan to League Two Club

This is a curious move for me, also a somewhat concerning one. Callum Roberts has excelled in the PL2 with 9 goals and 6 assists in 13 appearances. He also serves as team captain. He has made 1st team Newcastle appearances in the FA as well as scoring against Blackburn.

Well today the club announced he is going on loan to League Two Colchester United. Colchester are currently in 8th place and fighting for a playoff spot and I believe Roberts will immediately make an impact with the club, at least he should anyway.

The reason I am confused is because Callum has already made Senior club appearances and already had a loan spell in the Scottish Premiership with Kilmarnock. He only made 10 appearances with the club, and only 1 appearance with Newcastle, but surely he deserves more of a chance than this. The player is at least ready for a high League One or Championship Club (my preference).

The last concern I have is that his contract is expiring this summer. Seeing him get pawned to a League 2 side and still isn't signed doesn't give me warm sides. I don’t know anything extra on the matter, but it is a concern. I rate Callum, and I think he has the tools to make it. Hopefully the club signs him up, he dominates this loan spell, and he get 1st team minutes next year.
