Looking back at how Newcastle’s Reserves and Academy did this past month

U23:

(a) Macclesfield Town 2-1 L (EFL Cup)

(h) Norwich City 3-2 W (PL2)

(a) West Brom 2-1 L (PL2)

(h) Swansea 1-0 L (PL2)

4 Played 1 Win 0 Draw 3 Loss -2 GD

It’s better than last month but it still is not looking good for Neil Redfearn’s black and white army. It was a total of 3 points in the League for the past month which puts NUFC in 10th place of 12 teams in the PL2 Div 2 with 6 total points. Mackems are still bottom (lol).

In the first match of the month, NUFC U21s faced off in the EFL Cup. There weren't many highlights to speak of outside of Luke Charman’s goal, but there was one. Elliot Anderson made his EFL Cup debut.

In the league, it started off with a very exciting match against Norwich (3-2 win) which I will dub the Rosaire Longelo game. Then the back-to-back losses piled up. I have to say, West Brom is soft for this move. They started a 28-year-old, 30-year-old, 34-year-old, and 37-year-old in this match (which is within the rules, but whats the point in fielding a U23 team if you aren't into developing?). The second match was a tough 1-0 loss to Swansea. The highlights were Luke Charman and the two teenagers (Elliot Anderson and Joe White) getting minutes.

Looking ahead to October, the U23s will be competing in the Premier League Cup and EFL Trophy at Hull City and Shrewsbury Town. In the PL2, NUFC will face both of their northern rivals, the mackems and the smoggies.

U18:

(h) Blackburn 2-2 D

(a) mackems 2-1 W

(h) Stoke City 3-2 L (PL Cup)

3 played 1 Win 1 Draw 1 Loss 0 GD

The U18s seem to be on a more level playing field than the U23s, and they ended up having a decent month by getting 4 points of a possible 6 in the league. The U18s finish the month in 7th place out of 12 in the U18 PL North. Mackems are also in last (lol).

My players to watch are Lucas Gamblin, Elliot Anderson, Joe White, and Dylan Stephenson

Looking ahead the U18s will play 2 tough league matches against Man U and Liverpool and a PL Cup match against West Ham.

Goal scorers:

X1: Josh Harrison (1), Joe White (2)

X2: Dylan Stephenson, Josh Gilchrist (2)
