Is this rumor trash or not? Mesut Ozil the subject of a swap deal with Newcastle United

I’ve had many a good chuckle this past week. But is the rumor of Mesut Ozil being the subject of a swap with Arsenal truthful? Or is it straight trash?

There was what I can only describe as a trash article circulating this past week about Mesut Ozil being the subject of a potential swap between both Newcastle United and Arsenal. While Mesut Ozil does look to be on his way out of Arsenal as the 31 year-old has not been the perennial starter he once was, I laugh at the notion that he’d be even thought of as a potential player to join Newcastle United.

Didn’t we just have this discussion that veterans have no place at Newcastle United? For a measly £16m and smaller wages than Ozil, Mike Ashley chose to let Salomon Rondon walk to China with former manager Rafa Benitez. Ozil commands a sizable wage and would increase a wage budget that Mike Ashley would rather have remain steady than rise by more than £60,000 a week.

Steve Bruce may have stated that he’ll make his case for veterans joining the club, but Ozil is still under contract at Arsenal, and he won’t just join the club on a free. And currently, our midfield is made up of a talented younger roster that doesn’t require Ozil to join it at the expense of losing one of our big time starters.

Stay frosty out there guys. It’s a crazy world of transfer rumors when you’re a Newcastle United fan. If we see any trash rumors, we’ll let you know. Such as this one.

Verdict: Trash
