It was a match where the reserves never seemed strong enough as Morpeth Town defeated NUFC U23s 2-0.

The first half ended in a 0-0 tie, but Morpeth had a clear advantage throughout the opening half with multiple chances that they could not convert.

A goal in the 46th minute followed by a penalty to Morpeth in the 59th made it 2-0, and an insurmountable comeback for the visitors.

Morpeth did go down to 10 men but NUFC U23s never seemed to threaten.

The U23s next match will be on Monday against Aston Villa in the PL2.
