Fabian Schär was recently announced as the winner of the goal of the month contest put on by BBC’s Match of Day program.
In case you have been living underneath a rock Schär scored this stunning goal from long range against Burnley to give Newcastle a 1-0 lead.
Schär beat out the likes of Sergio Aguero (twice on the list), Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Anthony Martial. Schär won the contest with 32% of the vote with Anthony Martial finishing behind him with 24% of the vote.
The announcement of this “award” was a bit awkward as it came the day after Schär had one of his worst Newcastle matches as the Magpies fell short to West ham with a score of 2-0.
