Step right up, step right up! Mike Ashley’s transfer window circus is back in town for another year and it’s fair to say this is the best one yet!
The main attraction this year being, Sheikh Khaled from Dubai. This comes after previous headline acts Amanda Staveley, Garry Cook, and Peter Kenyon proved to be quite a hit.
Ashley previously stated:
“I’d like to say a big thank you, to Amanda Staveley, Garry Cook, and Peter Kenyon for the hard work they have put in. The previous circus’ have been a huge hit thanks to them, it has allowed me to save a lot of money! Hopefully this year will be just as good. Amanda, Garry and Peter are welcome back any time.”
Ashley has devised quite the plan this year, his plan is to get his representatives to tell the media that Sheikh Khaled is interested in buying the club. In order to add that big cherry on the cake, Sheikh Khaled will be a distant relative of Manchester City’s owner Sheikh Mansour.
The early response to Ashley’s latest headline act has been so positive that he plans to keep the circus in town until July. The Newcastle United owner hopes that the circus will be a distraction from unimportant things, such as extending Rafael Benitez’s contract, which is due to expire on June 30th. The new circus only arrived in town late on Sunday night, however, it has already put a stop to people talking about Rafael Benitez’s future.
It is yet to be confirmed whether Ashley will keep Sheikh Khaled on the books, despite the positive early reviews. It is understood that Ashley will continue to explore the UAE, looking for more potential headline acts. Ashley’s circus has had a huge response on social media that is only set to continue with some fans already learning Arabic for Sheikh Khaled. Ashley will remain tight lipped in the media, as his friend in the UAE will be the ones drumming up the noise.
There is still a lot of work to be done, the circus still has its critics. However, Ashley is confident of attracting talent to headline every summer. The Sports Direct tycoon is also organising the circus to come to Newcastle every January due to the high demand the circus has been receiving.
Ashley did not want to reveal too much, when asked about his future plans. Ashley did mention that he is hoping gain more control in media outlets such as Sky Sports News and The Sun. He did, however, mention that he has become very close friends with Tony Pulis, whether or not Pulis joins the circus, remains to be seen.
Ashley's circus continues to grow, after breaking into the Middle East, his main aim is to finally make it big in America. There have also been rumours that talks to bring the circus to China have begun, Ashley has refused to comment on the potential expansion.
Ashley's circus is sold out for the upcoming shows, there are hopes of extra shows being made available. Details will be made available as soon as possible.
