When Fabian Schär signed for Newcastle United from Deportivo La Coruña, eyebrows were raised and there was a sense of fear with signing a player who had just been relegated in the previous season.

Schär caught the eyes of many during the World Cup last year with Switzerland. However, it took a few months for Schär to settle in England and cement his place in the Newcastle side.
Signing for £3M a lowly figure in this day and age, Schär has proved to be a bargain buy. On Sunday against Tottenham, he ] again showed his class, helping Newcastle come away from the capital with all three points.

Schär shows a sense of calm every time he has the ball. His passing ability is extraordinary for a central defender, something for which he doesn't always get the credit he deserves. The Swiss international has formed a good partnership with captain Jamaal Lascelles at the heart of the defence.
Schär has all the qualities to reach the very top. His qualities do not stop in defence, Schär scored four goals last season. Two of which came at home against Cardiff.
The former Deportivo player has quickly become a fan favourite on Tyneside. Schär will want to build on his eye-catching displays from last season.

This season will be a different challenge for Schär, a new manager in place and a different style of play. There is no doubt that Schär will yet again be one of the stand out players for Newcastle this season.
