Looking back at how Newcastle’s Reserves and Academy did last month

U23:

(a) Reading 6-0 L

(h) West Ham 2-1 L

(h) Manchester United 4-0 L

(a) Fulham 2-1 W

4 Played 1 Win 0 Draw 3 Loss -10 GD

Obviously a very frustrating start to Newcastle United U23s. Only 2 goals from open play and 1 pen is all their offense could muster in the first month of the season. They sit in 11th place in the PL 2 Div 2 which is good for 2nd bottom. The Mackems round up the bottom of the table.

In the first month, you saw debuts from Jake Turner and Kyle Scott. Victor Fernandez is back after missing last season due to injuries. Also, we saw some U18 promotions. New boy Ludwig Fancillette, Jude Swailes, Elliot Anderson and Tom Midgley all were called up for matches at the U23 level.

Looking ahead the U23s will be competing in the EFL Trophy at Macclesfield Town and will play in 3 PL2 matches.

U18:

(h) Middlesbrough 3-3 D

(a) Manchester City 7-1 L

(h) Derby County 2-1 W

(a) West Bromwich Albion 2-1 L

4 played 1 Win 1 Draw 2 Loss -6 GD

It wasn’t as bad as the U18s but it wasn’t great either. NUFC U18s finish the month of August in 8th place (of 12) on 4 points.

The players looking the best so far are Joe White, Elliot Anderson, Lucas de Bolle and Joe Oliver.

Looking ahead the U18s will debut in the PL Cup against Stoke City and play 2 matches in the U18 PL, one of the matches against the Mackems.

Goal scorers were Joe White (1), Lucas de Bolle (1), Elliot Anderson (3), Dylan Stephenson (1), Lucas Gamblin (1)
