Did you know that Fabian Schar can score goals wherever he goes? It just comes naturally to him. While he’s at it, he’ll stop the other team from scoring on you, because he’s one of the best two-way defenders in the game. And he continued that quality in a Euro 2020 qualifier match against the Republic of Ireland yesterday.

Schar scored the first goal of the match in the 74th minute, and while he was answered shortly after, his 90 minute display can only be described as class.

The player who was brought in as one of former manager Rafa Benitez’s “bargain buys”, turned out to be a bonafide star for the magpies. Currently the club’s top goalscorer, Schar has shown that he has an eye for goal and defense.

After playing a crucial role in Newcastle’s draw with Watford, Schar headed on international duty, only to continue to prove himself on the world’s stage as a player who can control both ends of the pitch.

Newcastle United fans had nothing but praise for the Swiss international, happy that on the international stage, a magpie is showing his class.
