Newcastle United failed with the Joelinton signing. In a move that can only be described as “be careful what you wish for” Newcastle United fans saw their record signing (previously Miguel Almiron) smashed when Newcastle United bought Joelinton from Hoffenheim for 44 million pounds.
He has yet to find his rhythm with Newcastle United, and scored a meager 4 goals in 44 appearances. That’s not what you expect from someone who was signed for that much. In fact, it isn’t what I expect from somebody who was bought for 15 million pounds. But Newcastle United is rumored to be looking at what would be a bargain for a player who at his current club is already a proven scorer.
Odsonne Edouard is 22 years old, and already has 49 goals in 82 appearances for Celtic. A former youth Paris Saint-Germain player he played one season in French Ligue 1 scoring once in 16 league matches. He later found himself in Scotland in 2018 being bought by Celtic for what they say was a club record fee. That fee could be anywhere above 6 million pounds, but it is estimated to be around 9 million.
It is believed the Celtic do not wish to sell, but for the right price, any player can be for sale. Sky Sports is reporting that Edouard could go for a bargain price. There’s belief that his fee is in the range of 25 million pounds. That’s 5 million more than Moussa Dembele, another Frenchman who previously played for Celtic, who sold for 20 million pounds to play for Lyon. He’s now linked to Manchester United for a massive move.
At 25 million, you can’t argue that’s a bargain bin price in today’s transfer market. Edouard has a lot of tools that would make him valuable for the club, as well as the simple task of scoring goals. He’s only going to sell for more later on, and it would be an impressive investment to see Newcastle United take on the 22 year old.
