After all my complaining about Newcastle United needing a full-back, the club had been targeting midfielders and forwards. But now the club has finally made a move for a full-back in the form of Jamal Lewis, and I’m okay with this.
Danny Rose’s loan with Newcastle United ended and he is now a Tottenham player once again. Jamal Lewis, 22, is expected to be brought in to fill that void.
The deal is expected to be around 13.5m pounds and has put Newcastle United in competition with Liverpool to sign the player. It is also expected that Jamal Lewis will choose to sign with Newcastle United for playing time.
Newcastle are yet to reach an agreement with former Bournemouth player Ryan Fraser, who wishes to sign with Newcastle United on a free. The club have also been reported to have tabled a 20m pound offer for Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson.
It appears that Newcastle United is looking to make some swift moves in the transfer market. It is interesting in the case of Jamal Lewis as Norwich’s Daniel Farke had previously stated he wouldn’t sell Lewis for 100m pounds because the left-back was so important to the club.
Newcastle United were also previously quoted 20m on Lewis as well, so the only questions I have about this deal are why the valuations were so out of whack.
