Welcome to our weekly CHIP update after Match Day 15! If you are not up to date with the Comin Home Index of Power or need an introduction to it before going ahead with this week’s update, you can always check our introduction by following this link. Other than that, here’s our most-recent update after the last slate of games took place!
Three large power plays occurred on Match Day 15 with Liverpool grabbing the most points with their victory away over Spurs. The win stopped a run of back-to-back losses in the Premier League for them and so the Reds only rise back up into the fifth position on the CHIP table.
Liverpool joins our lads in black and white as the only two clubs to win an away match between top-7 squads. Tottenham, being on the losing side of both of those matches, drop into seventh on the CHIP table.
The Gunners defeated Chelsea at The Bridge. Since the Blues are lower on the EPL table versus the Spurs' placement, this outcome garners the second-most points and separates Arsenal out in front at the top end of the CHIP. Chelsea’s consistently poor showings against top-10 teams continue... May it keep going this Saturday as the Magpies host Chelsea at SJP!
Aston Villa’s win over Man United occurred at home and so it brought in the third-most power for the match day. The big power display moved Villa up from 17th to 14th on the CHIP.
There were very few other significant storylines from a CHIP power standpoint. The bottom three remain Nottingham, Leicester, and Wolves.
Leicester’s win over Everton brought them off the foot of the table leaving Wolves as the least-impressive team in the league. With their consistent struggles to score goals and Diego Costa serving a three-game suspension for doing Diego-Costa-things, it is difficult to see that changing much in the near future.
Here are the full CHIP ranks through MD15.
