While things never got off the ground between Newcastle United and Cristiano Ronaldo, there were always going to be rumors linking both parties after the former got acquired by a Saudi consortium and the latter started to fall from Old Trafford’s grace as pages on the calendar kept getting flipped over the past 12 months.

Ronaldo’s drama reached a boiling point a few days ago when a two-part interview with Piers Morgan saw daylight and it just exploded yesterday with its grand finale: the termination of the Portuguese forward’s contract by Man Utd.

Now without a club, rumors came all the way back to the forefront with behemoths such as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Newcastle linked to the once-great goalscorer. None of those teams seem to be interested in having anything to do with the Portugal international.

“Sources have told ESPN [Newcastle] have no interest.“ Adding to that, the outlet says that those same sources “have also told ESPN that Ronaldo’s representatives are also hopeful of reigniting interest from Chelsea.”

Clearer than water, folks.

If the numbers are right, Ronaldo is now set to lose “around £15.5m in wages,” reports ESPN. Ronaldo was earning “£500,000 a week” at Manchester United, in a deal set to expire next June.

All of that for someone who has played 525 minutes in the Premier League this season appearing in 10 games and scoring all of one measly goal. I guess at least Ronaldo scored two goals in the extraordinary UEFA Europa League—both against mastodon-club Sheriff Tiraspol.

From the CHN HQ, we can only thank Cristiano Ronaldo for his efforts in joining our gentlemen’s club Newcastle United. Thanks, but no thanks.

Bon Voyage, Cris!
