Manchester City might have won the Premier League, but do you know one thing they won’t win? The save of the season, that’d be.
Martin Dubravka, Newcastle’s goalie and net gatekeeper, has been officially shortlisted by the Premier League thanks to an astonishing effort against the very own Sky Blue side all the way back on Dec. 2021 when the Magpies were still struggling to put anything substantial together. Was this the moment that fostered the Toon dazzling rise up the table? Who knows, it might have been!

This save against Manchester City has been shortlisted for the Premier League Save of the Season award!
Of course, you might think that this save meant nothing for Newcastle as City went on to defeat the Magpies by a sound 4-0 final result. You can very well forget about that, because, well, let’s say this is about single cherry-picked plays instead of full games. So go elsewhere with your uncontainable hatred, please and thank you.
We’re already full of Liverpool lads robbing Newcastle of awards—coughKloppcough—so it’s about time we get something right, you hear me, Premier League?
Dubravka’s save of Gabriel Jesus’ header against City is facing strong competition, though, with the likes of Alisson (Liverpool), Bernd Leno (Arsenal), David De Gea (Manchester United), Edouard Mendy (Chelsea), Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa), Jordan Pickford (Everton), and Nick Pope (Burnley) also in contention to raise the little-yet-meaningful trophy.
You can watch all the nominated saves and vote for Dubravka’s effort here, with voting closing at 3 pm UK (10 am ET) on Friday, 27th May.
Howay Dubby!
