In the early hours of the morning on Thursday, Jan. 12, Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton was arrested and charged with driving whilst above the prescribed limit for alcohol by Northumbria police.
The official statement from a representative of the police department is below.
Shortly before 1:20 AM today (Thursday) officers pulled over a vehicle in the Ponteland Road area of Newcastle and arrested the occupant.
Joelinton Casio, 26, of Ponteland, has since been charged whilst above the prescribed limit for alcohol. He is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle on January 26.
This news comes only a couple of days after Joelinton scored the goal that secured Newcastle making their first cup semi-final in 18 years, and first EFL Cup semi-final since 1976. The Brazilian has become a fan favorite and mainstay in Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side.
According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Eddie Howe is aware of the incident and is handling it internally. As of the time this story was published, the club has not commented on the matter.
