The Boxing Day Premier League matchup scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Dec. 26 inside the comfortable St. James’ Park will see Newcastle hosting Nottingham Forest for a final match in town this season before we flip the calendar page on Monday when NUFC will pay a visit to Liverpool to face the Reds away from home.
Newcastle will try to bounce back from a string of disappointing results across all competitions including last weekend’s recent 1-0 loss to Luton Town and the EFL Cup exit on penalties at the hands of Chelsea, not to mention the UCL elimination a few days before.
Despite dominating possession and having a goal disallowed against Luton last Saturday, Newcastle has now suffered five defeats in their last six games—no bueno. At least the Magpies have stayed afloat when playing home matches with the team riding a a seven-match winning streak at St James’ Park.
Nottingham Forest, now managed by Nuno Espirito Santo, face a tough challenge following a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth the last time they played. Currently 17th in the league, Forest have lost six of their last seven games and they have struggled in a similar way as Newcastle on their trips away from home as they are in the middle of a six-match winless skid on the road.
