The summer transfer window is finally open, which means there are going to be rumors of bids, signings, departures, etc. the next few weeks. Newcastle United have been linked to a handful of targets already and have some players departing to other clubs.
(Times are BST)
10:43 PM: Newcastle United have been given the green light to bid on 29-year old striker Darren Bent, according to The Chronicle. Interestingly, the Chronicle notes that Aston Villa won't even let Bent participate in their preseason program at all, clearly marking him as expendable to the club.
We understand Villa boss Paul Lambert has told the 29-year-old that he not only won't take any part in the squad's pre-season preparations, either friendly matches or travelling to a training camp in Germany, he won't even be allowed to train with the first-team at all.
7:59 PM: I have no idea how true this may or may not be, but there is some thought that the lack of urgency on the part of Newcastle United in the Aubameyang race is that they knew they'd lose out to a team like Dortmund (I honestly can't fault PEA for picking Dortmund over NUFC), so they put their bid in and then began working other avenues, such as the possibility of Brown Ideye.
Back in May it was reported that Ideye preferred to play for the Toon and wanted to join an English club. The 24-year old striker notched two assists in the 2013 Confederations Cub for Nigeria and caught people's eyes with his performances in the Champions League with Dynamo Kyiv.
Lack of movement on PE-A, is down to #NUFC focusing on more affordable (+ equally impressive) Dynamo Kyiv striker Ideye Brown.— Dan Ross (@Football_Dan) July 2, 2013
7:57 PM: It appears that Newcastle are out of the race for Aubameyang, as there are multiple reports that a transfer between St. Eteinne and Dortmund for €15 million has been worked out and Aubameyang is planning to take a physical so it can go through.
2:23 PM: In some sad, sad news... it appears #JozyNUFC has taken a big hit with reports that Sunderland is leading the chase for the services of Jozy Altidore. Altidore's agent confirmed they are in discussions with an English club, but didn't reveal which team it was.
2:01 PM: Despite rumors of Newcastle United in the running for midfielder William Vainqueur, who bought out the contract with his Belgium club making him a free agent, the Toon passed up on the chance to sign him according to a report from The Journal, as Vainqueuer's agent told The Journal there was "no interest" from Newcastle United.
1:55 PM: It seems that utility man James Perch is officially out from Newcastle and on his way to Wigan, as The Journal reports the club has agreed to a transfer fee, which has yet to be disclosed but is rumored to be around the £700,000 mark.
1:51 PM: It appears that Newcastle United aren't the only ones trying to land the services of 24-year old striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as there are reports of Borussia Dortmand also planning to make a bid. Reports indicate the Toon have an €18 million bid in and Joe Kinnear is attempting to talk Mike Ashley into making an improved bid as Newcastle try to land their top transfer target.
