Newcastle United pull out of Gomis deal, per report

Jasper Juinen

Newcastle United have pulled out of the transfer deal for French striker Bafetimbi Gomis according to a report by Sky Sports. It was reported last week that the agreed deal to bring Gomis to the Toon had hit a snag because of agent fees and meddling by Marseille after Newcastle had agreed to a fee and wages for Gomis, but it appears the deal has fallen through.

Newcastle Director of Football Joe Kinnear mentioned in an interview a week ago that the transfer for Gomis had complications and the agreed upon fee continued to change, but he wanted to finalize the deal and get Gomis to Tynedale.

Midfielder Moussa Sissoko still wants his friend on the Toon.

"Bafe Gomis is my friend and he says to me that he wants to come to Newcastle, but it is not easy with the president (of Lyon) or an agent," Sissoko told The Daily Mail. "I don't know if its finished yet or not. If he comes here, it is a very good move for him. I will keep the message the same to him - we would like him to come to Newcastle. Maybe I will talk to him this week again."

Unless the Toon re-open the deal for Gomis, it would appear to be dead in the water and now Kinnear must move on to other targets, which reportedly includes Darren Bent.
