Newcastle United after Tom Ince, James McCarthy

Ross Kinnaird

Newcastle United are now reportedly targeting Blackpool winger Tom Ince, as well as Wigan midfielder James McCarthy according to multiple reports. The Toon are reportedly lining up an £8 million bid for Ince, who nearly went to Cardiff City before the deal fell through, as Mike Ashley has given Alan Pardew the go-ahead to sign players.

Blackpool accepted an £8 million bid for the English winger a little while ago, so the transfer price should already be settled. Even with the reported transfer deals for Bafetimbi Gomis and Loic Remy close to being finalized, it appears the Toon will continue to buy and stock up on young talent.

Continuing in the "stock up talent" trend, it appears the Toon are also getting ready to launch a bid for 22-year old Wigan midfielder James McCarthy, according to a report in The Independent. Wigan are said to want £20 million for McCarthy, which is ridiculous, but there appears to be belief that he can actually be gotten for much cheaper than the public asking price. The Independent also suggests McCarthy would be more than willing to move to Newcastle due to the fact that Wigan has been relegated to the Championship league for 2013-2014.

There is also some mention of the Toon wanting to add some English players after bringing in so many French internationals over the past year.
